The Sidemen

So, I am fairly new to a lot of the YouTube scene and before this year I hadn’t really watched the Sidemen. I knew who they were but I had never really watched any of their videos. However, with all this ‘Rona and pandemic stuff it has given me a lot more time to watch more YouTube and after watching a couple of their videos I can now safely say I am hooked :’D. I find all their videos extremely funny and entertaining. Some of my favourite videos of theirs are their most recent one (Cheap vs Expensive food), Come Dine With Me and their A-Z eating challenge. I respect all of the individuals for the grind they do and the amount of videos they are able to produce and the amount of ideas they are able to have as a group of 7. It is also incredibly cool how all their videos are always entertaining, I never get bored when I’m watching one. I also love the dynamic they have as a group as it makes the videos more enjoyable to watch, knowing that they all get on in real life and some of them even live together. Definitely a 5 stars out of 5 YouTube channel for me now, they are probably one of my favourite YouTube channels.

Normal People

Wow, what a book! I was pleasantly surprised. Normally, I tend to read the same books over and over again but while I was visiting home the other week I saw this book on my shelf and thought, what the hell I might as well give this a read seeing as so many people I know have raved about the TV adaptation and a few had mentioned the book to me. Honestly, this book is excellent. I was not expecting to like it at all and I ended up falling in love with it by the end. In fact, I did end up crying at the book. The story is set in Dublin and follows the lives of Connell and Marianne and how the love that they have for each other allows them to still end up with one another despite the twists and turns each others separate lives take. Once I started reading, I found it hard to put down which has not happened with me and a book in an extremely long time. I would thoroughly recommend reading it. This book really touched me and it’s difficult to put into words the way this book made me feel. Definitely a 5 stars out of 5 book and I would give it so much more if I could and these reviews weren’t just out of 5 ;’D. I love this book so much and it definitely has a special place in my heart now.

Pete Davidson – Alive From New York

Recently I have been watching a lot of stand-up comedy specials on Netflix and I have got to say that Pete’s has got to be one of the best I’ve seen so far. He just manifests as this goofball telling grossly hilarious jokes on stage. I laughed so much when I watched it because usually the stuff he talks about would be thought to be taboo but somehow he gets away with it. I really love the way he tells his jokes and his sense of humour.

I thought it was extraordinarily clever how he saw the funny in his breakup with Ariana Grande and somehow he made me feel sorry for him when he was telling the stories about their breakup because you don’t really think about his side and how it affected him in the long run. I guess it’s pretty cool to have 2 songs written about you though, even if one is a break-up anthem :’D.

He also manages to bring light to the fact that his father died when he was very young so massive kudos to him for being able to see the funny in not one, but TWO huge life changes he had to go through. The sporadic nature of his routine only makes it more likeable. He’s just like…this huge goofball who is very earnest and humble in the way he tells his story. He even goes as far as saying he is much less famous than Ariana which just made me love him more. He’s a comical genius and you’d be pretty nuts not to see that. If you don’t know who Pete is I strongly recommend you go and watch this stand-up on Netflix RIGHT now. Definitely a 5 stars out of 5 show. I loved it to pieces. Would recommend if you’re in need of a good laugh.

CALM

Today’s blog post is slightly different. Jack from London based Indie band ‘CALM’ got in touch with me about the bands new singles ‘Is Anybody Out There?’ And ‘Something New’ so I gave them a listen and I wanted to write about them. I gave both singles a listen and WOW… I was not disappointed!

I adore Indie music anyway but I love the bands style, it is so groovy and mellow, unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. Personally I would have to say that ‘Is Anybody Out There?’ is definitely my favourite single. The cool bass and deep vocals give the music an almost sci-fi feel. If you’re a fan of Declan McKenna, Fontaines D.C. or Blossoms then you HAVE to listen to these goes. After one listen I would 100% give these guys 5 stars out of 5 – go have a listen – you won’t regret it!

Why is how i met your mother so much better than friends?

How i met your mother has got to be one of my favourite TV shows of all time. It is way, WAY better than friends, in my opinion. It has some really incredible stories and each episode is able to evoke some kind of emotion. I have cried many a time at an episode because of the touching way the actors and actresses seem to be able to weave really poignant narratives into each episode. Also the music used in the episodes just add to the soul-stirring nature of the show. The cast (Cobie Smoulders, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris) are one of a kind and I can’t imagine them being played by anyone else. Also one of the best things about the show is that the cast got their real life partners to play characters in the show with Neil’s real life husband David Burtka playing Lily’s high school (ex) boyfriend Scooter,  Alyson Hannigan’s real life husband Alexis Denisof playing Sandy and Cobie Smoulders real life husband Tara Killam playing Gary Blauman. Also the guest stars are incredible good as well with Britney Spears maing an appear as well as Joe Lo Truglio (better known as Charles Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine), star of Magic Mike Joe Managaniello as Brad Morris, one of Marshall’s Bachelor friends, John Lithgow as Barney’s real actual Dad, Bryan Callen (better known as Coach Mellor from The Goldbergs) as Bilson, Ted’s architect boss and Bryan Cranston (star of Breaking Bad) as Hammond Druthers, another of Ted’s architect bosses just to name a few (I could go on). This show has a special place in my heart and I watch reruns of it all the time on Netflix because it is just such a wonderful show. 5 stars out of 5. Give it a watch if you haven’t, you won’t regret it.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

Literally one of the best TV shows out there at the moment. I cannot get over how fantastic this show is. Get your tissues at the ready, I have cried at every episode of this programme so far. Also what made me love it even more was the fact they SANG A FRIGGIN BILLY JOEL SONG AND ALSO REFERENCED HIM IN ONE OF THE EPISODES. With possibly one of the best casts I have ever seen (Alex Newell, Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Peter Gallagher and Mary Steenburgen as the leads) you would be out of your mind to not at least give one episode a watch. Also the SONGS. The covers the cast manage to do of songs are insane. Just listen to Skylar Astin’s version of I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) or I mean any of the music and you will see what I mean when I say the singing in this show is out of this world. I wish I could give this show infinite stars. It is my favourite thing to watch on TV at the moment because it somehow manages to touch you while also being funny while also combining my two favourite things, song and dance. If you are into Musical Theatre (like me) or you just like seeing incredible singing and choreography then I urge you to give this a watch, particularly because we have so much time to do things like this at the moment. I promise it will be worth it. This is definitely the best happy accident I have come across in the form of a TV show. I cannot wait to watch the finale next week, I am so excited because I can just tell that it is going to be wonderful.

The Politician

The Politician has got to be one of the best Netflix series I have ever watched. It’s not normally the sort of thing which I personally would choose to watch but I’m so glad my friend got me to start watching it because right from the get-go I have been hooked. With a star studded cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch and Ben Platt (to name a few) it’s not surprising that this series is particularly incredible.

Also the guy that plays River is SUPER fit (girls that’s mainly for you guys – he’s literally DROP DEAD GORGEOUS). The plot is so gripping and it’s impossible to only watch one of these episodes. Honestly, fantastic. Also one of my favourite songs of all time has been included, I won’t say what but lets just say Ben Platt makes a Billy Joel song sound beautiful… If you haven’t watched this I urge to to do so. A 5/5 stars from me and 100% worth the watch.

Billy Joel

Billy Joel is one of the very few people, who I believe can be called a musical genius. He has such a distinctive, delightful voice that could not possibly belong to any voice and you just have to watch his live performance of Scenes from an Italian Restaurant (Live from Long Island), which is linked here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRP1dF7Qlac to see how insanely talented he is on the piano.

Some of my favourite Billy Joel songs have to be Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, obviously, Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song), My Life, Just The Way You Are, This Is The Time, Piano Man, Vienna, Only the Good Die Young, Big Shot and the gorgeous, bluesy melody of New York State of Mind.

With all the stuff going on in the world at the moment, watching old videos of Billy and listening to all of his music has brought me so much joy, even watching one of his more recent performances with Elton John dressed as Godzilla making me feel so much better! You can watch this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkCLJ4Gy6Xs

Billy Joel is and always will be a legend to me. He is one of very few people who is a piano playing genius. There is not a single bad thing I can say about Billy. I am not going to rate Billy out of 5 or 10 because I just believe myself that he is an icon and one of my favourite musicians in the world. If you have any free time to listen to him I would definitely recommend searching him up and watching his live performances because they are so astounding to watch. Billy Joel, in my opinion is a phenomenal musician.

The American Pie Films

These films are so great and I love them to pieces. They somehow manage to combine rude humour with some really moving stories from the characters. One of my favourite movie scenes of all time is still when Jim sticks his privates into an apple pie, the comic timing for his Dad to enter the kitchen is absolutely hilarious. I also have to say that the soundtracks for the films are all terrific to listen to. After watching the first film I had One Week by the Barenaked Ladies on repeat as it is such a catchy and great song to listen to.

Although I loved all the films my favourite will always be the first film. I particularly love Oz’s character in this film. Kevin is also extremely cute, but Jim as the lead will always be the funniest. Finch’s unusual character is fascinating to watch and it is also fascinating to watch how he somehow manages to snag Stifler’s Mom on more than one occasion.

The main relationship story between Michelle and Jim is beautiful to watch and I was very happy to see that this story followed a nerd (Jim) and a band geek (Michelle) falling in love with each other as this is not always portrayed often in films.

The Personal History Of David Copperfield

I watched this film with my Mum on Friday of last week and I absolutely adored it. I have never actually read David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, however the piece of cinema was thoroughly charming to watch. Dev Patel was excellently cast as Mr. Copperfield himself and added a wonderful warmth and depth to the character. Hugh Laurie as Mr Dick is thoroughly charming to watch, particularly in the scenes where he is flying his kite.

Peter Capaldi brings some mischief to the table with his performance as Mr Mcawber. Aneurin Barnard (who is also in my favourite film of all time – Hunky Dory) is excellent as James Steerforth, a University student who is selfish and doesn’t believe he is good enough for anyone, he also has a gorgeous singing voice which can be heard when he is singing shanty’s in the film. Daisy May Cooper and Paul Whitehouse bring humour and a touching sentiment to the film by playing Peggotty and Mr. Peggotty. Ben Whishaw is strangely good at playing a bad, evil plotting Uriah Heap which is only unusual as I was so used to him playing characters such as Q from Skyfall and Paddington Bear.

Darren Boyd was perfect for the part of Edward Murdstone and as soon as he came on screen it was obviously he was a horrible evil person. Tilda Swinton was outstanding in her role as Betsey Trotwood, Copperfield’s extravagant, unusual Aunt. Perhaps my second favourite character after David Copperfield was however, Dora Spenlow who was delightful to watch, particularly the scenes with her dog, Morfydd Clark was hilarious to watch as Dora and one of the funniest scenes in the film had to be when she spoke as if she was her dog (Jip) and Dev Patel as David Copperfield pretended to be a talking apple tree. A 4 stars out of 5 for this one as I was slightly unsure of some of the casting and whether it was necessarily all great for the film, however I would 100% recommend going to see it if you haven’t yet and I promise you won’t be dissapointed.
