Summer Reading Collection

Alex In Wonderland – Simon James Green

I wasn’t sure of what to expect as I had never read a book by Simon James Green but I had read about this book somewhere and thought I’d give it a go. I will say this, it wasn’t my favourite book of all time. I did enjoy reading it somewhat but not as much as I have loved reading other books. It was quite confusing to read. I would give the book 2 out of 5 stars.

Holding Up The Universe – Jennifer Niven

As I’d already read All The Bright Places and thoroughly enjoyed it I had high expectations for this book and I was not dissapointed. The book tells the story of the lives of MVB high students Jack Masselin (who suffers from Prosapagnosia or face blindness) and Libby Strout (who was the fattest teen in America and had to be cut out of her own house) and how they form an extremely unlikely relationship. If I could I would give this infinity stars because it was such an interesting book to read. Obviously a 5 stars out of 5 book no question about it.

Two Boys Kissing – David Levithan

Another fantastic book by David. The premise is that Craig and Harry (not a couple but used to be) want to set the world record for the longest kiss. The book follows their journey as well as Peter and Neil (who are a couple), Avery and Ryan (who have just met) and Cooper who is very much alone. An incredibly touching story about boys. My favourite part of the plot was definitely Craig and Hrry’s ongoing kiss which lasts for days. A 4 out of 5 stars book as there was just one bit that I did not fully grasp.

History Is All You Left Me – Adam Silvera

I wanted to pick this book up as I had read What If It’s Us which is a joint book by Adam Silvera (the author) and Becky Albertalli. This book was again, much like Holding Up The Universe extremely interesting to read as it explores themes of loss, grief and extreme OCD. Griffin loses his ex-boyfriend Theo in a drowning accident and struggles to deal with the loss until he meets Jackson (Theo’s boyfriend) and they are able to share and understand each others grief. The book is split into chapters with the headings ‘History’ and ‘Today’. ‘History’ tells Griffin’s history and relationship with Theo and ‘Today’ explores how he deals with Theo’s loss with unhealthy OCD compulsions which do begin to improve when he meets Jackson. A thoroughly touching, emotional and interesting book to read. 5 stars out of 5.
